About Me
My name is Sara V Ruiz. I was born and raised in Mexico City. I moved to the United States when I was fifteen and hold an immigrant status protected by DACA. I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher because I wanted to make a difference and give students a different experience from the ones I had with my teachers. In 2016, I started this journey in education; I acquired an Associate in Childhood Education at Kingsborough Community College. At KBCC, I learned the importance and role of a teacher in a classroom and knew I wanted to become a teacher who could connect with my students differently. In the Spring of 2021, I graduated from Brooklyn College; I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education (1st to 6th grade) with a bilingual extension. I became a bilingual educator to create a community where immigrant and minority families can feel safe and proud, embracing themselves.
Iam pursuing my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Hunter College. I started this new program in the Summer of 2022 because preschool education is essential. After all, it allows a child to grow integrally (physically, emotionally, and socially); this includes protection, cognitive and emotional stimulation, affection, and the environment’s safety. The experiences a child lives in the family and other environments, such as school, are fundamental. In this sense, initial education is essential in constructing specific cognitive and social skills. After completing this program, I will learn to be a successful teacher for students from birth to 6th grade. To teach successfully, I believe learning and understanding my students’ backgrounds, cultures, religions, special needs, and, most importantly, their development is essential. As an educator, I must be aware and involved in my student’s life.
